Free Stall Dairy

On Wilfrid and Lynn's free stall farm, they milk 100 cows and have 100 heifers. No two farms are the same but this is a good example of a free-stall farm in Canada.

In a free stall system, the cows will enter a milking parlour twice a day or more and the rest of the time they spend lounging around indoors in adjoining barns where they eat, rest and move around as they choose. Bedded stalls are provided for the cows to lie down. Barn aisles are often cement or slatted floors that allow easy clean up of manure. Cows have free choice feed.
