  • A cow can swallow as many as 30 mouthfuls of grass in 30 seconds.
  • Ontario dairy farmers must have a license to produce milk. There are over 3,000 licensed dairy farmers in Ontario.
  • Holstein spots are like a fingerprint. No two cows have the same pattern of black and white spots.
  • Cows turn feed into milk in 24 hours.
  • All dairy farms must adhere to strict quality standards before shipping milk to a dairy plant for processing.
  • Cows only have front teeth on the bottom of their mouth.
  • Robots use a cold laser to find and attach to each teat. A vacuum system milks each teat individually, measuring milk quality & production.
  • In Canada, most farms use one of three main kinds of milking systems –milking parlour, voluntary milking system or tie stall.
